Where are the True Worshippers?
Worshiping in Spirit & in Truth
Hi Triumpher!
This month is running rather swiftly. We just concluded Week 3 and about to enter Week 4. I know, I can already see you grinning at the sight of Week 4. . .Pay day week, right? Not so fast! October is one of those 5-week months, but don’t panic.
Anyways, let’s focus on more pressing matters. This week, our devotional focus was on true worship–worshiping with all our hearts, casting off restraint and shutting down every idol. Before we dive right into it, let’s take a moment to understand what it means to worship truly.
John Piper, a preacher, defined true worship as , “Valuing or treasuring God above all things. It is the response of our hearts and lives to His worth and glory, prompted and empowered by the Holy Spirit. True worship comes from the heart and is done in spirit and in truth, not just through external forms.”
But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.
True worship involves a life of dying daily to self and living for God. It should flow from your inner being and extend to every aspect of your life, with Christ at the center.
Just as plants require the right atmosphere to thrive, God’s power is the predictable outcome of the right spiritual environment. God desires all of you, not just a part, so your thoughts, words, actions, decisions, and desires—everything you do—should reflect His influence.
True worship creates an atmosphere of possibilities, and such an atmosphere allows the power of God to move unhindered (Psalm 114:5-7). Even though everyday life can be chaotic, the right approach of a worshiper is focusing on Jesus regardless of it all. Worship requires that you prioritize God over everything else (Hebrews 12:2).
Life has many challenges, but whatever the case, it is always better to fix your gaze on Jesus, because in Him lies the strength to make it through. The more you immerse yourself in worship, the more you grow in the revelation of God and see His power displayed in your life.
In order to experience true worship, we must cast off everything that detracts our focus from God. In all sincerity, these might be things we love and cherish, and oftentimes have made an idol of them in our hearts.
We must learn to recognize the major contenders for our devotion—money, fame, relationships—and deal with them.
Dear Triumpher, as you go about every day, remember that you were created for the worship of God and let that influence everything you do.
Till the next one,
Tim.
