I don't pray for luck
Here's why. . .
Dear Triumpher,
Have you ever met someone who prayed to God for luck? Personally, I haven’t, and that’s because luck, much like happiness is ephemeral in its very nature.
Instead, time and again, you and I pray to God for favor. What if I told you that it is possible to stir up favor? Read on...
While luck is a chance occurrence, favour is a divine blessing. It's important to recognize the difference and attribute our blessings to God's favour rather than mere luck. Favour isn’t luck.
God’s favour is Salvific, every believer saved by grace through faith can experience the favour of God, walk in it consistently, and grow in this favour.
How is it possible to grow in favour you may ask, well, that’s why we’re here, let’s go!
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
An important thing to note is that favour is a result of honour, and living in God’s favour is like this—being nurtured by God, flourishing like the trees along a riverbank, through every season, their leaves remain green, and fruitful at all times (Jeremiah 17:7-8). Favour is not beyond our influence, you can step in and out of it.
You can experience an increase in God’s favour when you honour God, you honour God by seeking His will in every situation, and following it, honouring God also includes financing God’s work—literally, favouring what God favours. God’s blessings are in His will for us.
Remember that favour is a result of honor, and God expects us to honour all men. (1 Peter 2:17 NKJV). Abraham is an example of someone who found favour as a result of honouring men, complete strangers. (Gen 18:1-10).
Honouring men should come natural to every Christian, regardless of position or status, not for the sole purpose of finding favour, but because God expects this of you.
Loyalty, just like honour, is another key that unlocks favour in a man’s life. Being loyal to people around you, showing up for them during celebrations, in times of grief, being a pillar of support, are gestures that most people appreciate and may never forget.
Like Jonathan, even at the expense of his relationship with King Saul, showed loyalty to David who in turn showed kindness to Jonathan’s family (1 Samuel 18:1-4, 1 Samuel 20, 2 Samuel 31:1-2).
Remember, our generosity, in honour and loyalty to all men should be a true reflection of God's heart, not with an expectation of reciprocity or ulterior motives. Your loyalty may be tested or disregarded; do not be discouraged, it is still God’s will for you to show honour and be loyal to all men, so keep at it!
Triumpher, a life without God’s favour will be filled with unnecessary struggle and frustration. It is impossible to fulfil your purpose without having favour with God.
Do not leave your life to chance—an occurrence of luck. Instead, make a conscious effort to walk and grow in the Favour of God.
I’m always rooting for you!
Tim.
