Triumpher, you have a Superpower!

Power and Authority

Hey there! It’s Tim again.

As a kid, you probably spent time watching cartoons that featured superheroes. Sometimes, you may have wished for  X-ray vision or really cool fighting skills or speed unlike any other, you probably tested if your wish came true by running with your friends or focusing really hard on an object to see if cool laser beams will burst out at any moment. Eventually, you grew up and learned that superpowers don’t exist or do they?

Let’s explore what power and authority really is as a believer. Come on!

Luke 10:19 (NKJV) says “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

This week we explored  the believer’s authority. Let’s go back to the superhero analogy; every superhero had a bad guy/villain to face in almost all episodes while we may never go head to head with Joker, we do have an enemy to contend with here on Earth and that’s the devil. As believers, we’ve been given all power and authority to defeat the devil and his agents and we must be aware of it.

Your authority is only accessed by your understanding of your identity in Christ (Mark 16:17).

Our authority and power comes from a source—Jesus(Luke 10:19)—and we must be aware and confidently wield this power given to us to influence our world in a positive and Christ-centered direction. A Superhero can only play their role when they actively and consciously walk in their power and authority and just like you can predict the outcome of every fight between a superhero and the villain, you can predict the outcome of the fight against the devil and his agents—victory! (1 John 5:4)

Here are a few points to hold on to:

  • You have power: It is imperative that you fully understand that as a believer, you have full authority over darkness.

  • The source of your power and authority is Jesus: Your identity in Christ is the greatest determinant of your power and authority over the devil.

  • Practice makes progress: The best way to fully understand your power and authority in Christ is by putting it to work.

Triumpher, it is not enough to know about your power and authority in Christ, you must also walk in it and confidently use it to make a difference in our world.

In the days ahead, spend time in study of the Word, prayer and exercising your power and authority in Jesus Christ.

Ready to tread upon serpents and scorpions? You’ve got this!

Rooting for you,

Tim.
