Maintaining Devotional Fervour
Hey! It’s Tim here back like I never left.
Did you know it’s possible to constantly be on fire? I don’t mean literally where your clothes are on fire and everywhere feels like an oven. That would be bad. Yikes! I mean spiritual fire and constant devotional fervour.
Come on! Let’s see what spiritual fire entails.
Leviticus 6:12 (NKJV) tells us:
“And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings.”
This week we talked about constant devotional fervour and what it takes to maintain it. For any fire to evolve, there must be certain elements in place to sustain it; Oxygen, an ignition and a sustainable environment.
The same way we deliberately place strategies to start and sustain physical fire is the same way we must be strategic about our spiritual fervour.
These strategies are:
A vibrant prayer life (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Evangelism (Ephesians 4:16)
Consistent study of the Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The right community to help you fan the flames (Proverbs 27:17)
A vibrant prayer life helps you stay connected to God and a person connected to God is definitely a person on fire. The food of the spirit-man is the word of God. It is our source and sustenance.
Walking in the Spirit is instrumental to maintaining the fire. When you build the ability to respond as God would have you—walking in love and living peaceably with all men—it shows our rich devotional experience.
Godly communities are sustainable environments for growth and fervency, God’s design is that of fellowship and close-knitted relationships with other believers. Being in a community helps foster accountability and growth because when you see other believers in vibrant and fervent circles, it inspires and stirs you up to do the same.
Triumpher, if you must maintain devotional fervour, these strategies are necessary. It is not enough to simply want to be on fire, you must also put in the work and apply these strategies daily and I'm sure you’ll be too hot for the enemy to handle in no time!
Take out some time to tailor a strategy that aligns with your schedule. Plan your times of prayer, Bible study and evangelism. Join vibrant communities and surround yourself with people eager to grow and be on fire.
I know you can do this!
Cheering you on!
Tim.
