Embrace your new reality in Christ.
Here's why you should put off the old man.
Hi Triumpher,
Welcome to the weekend! Finally!
Quick question: Am I the only one who starts counting down to the weekend from Monday? Or do you do it as well? đź‘€
Either way, we’re finally here, but before we go into today’s letter, I have a question for you: What would you do if you saw an ex-prisoner staying in his room all day or still running anytime he sees a police car? You’d grab his shoulders and say, “Stop running! You’re free! No one is chasing you!”, right?
Well, that’s the same reaction you ought to have when you catch yourself thinking or acting like someone who hasn’t been saved by Jesus Christ. You need to remind yourself of your new reality and consciously walk in it.
In Ezekiel 36:26, God promised that He would “take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and give you a heart of flesh”. He fulfilled this promise when Christ died for you, redeeming you from a life of sin and death.
This is why, when your old nature tries to rear its head and make you feel like you’re still the same person, you must remind yourself that you are now the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus; that it is God who works in you and gives you the desire and power to do what pleases Him; and that you have a new life in God (Philippians 2:13, Colossians 3:3).
Although staying conscious of your new reality is an essential part of walking in the newness of life that Christ has given you, that’s not all there is to do.
If you want to consistently experience growth and live out your new life to the fullest, you must lay aside old habits and anything that might distract you from your new life (Hebrews 12:1).
Just like the ex-prisoner who must get a job and intentionally take steps to reintegrate himself into the society, you must also spend time in prayer, study of the Word, fasting, fellowship with the saints, and service to learn more about your new life and enjoy it to the fullest (1 Corinthians 9:24-25).
Triumpher, in Christ, it’s a new day for you. The habits, fears, and desires you used to struggle with no longer have a hold on you. Walk in the consciousness of who you are in Christ and live out the glorious life that God has given you in His Son. (Matthew 5:16)
That’s all for today.
Till next time,
Tim.
