- Are you doing too much?
Are you doing too much?
The zeal of the Lord and how it applies in our lives.
Have you ever been told, “You’re doing too much,” or, “Your own is too much”?
It probably came when you stood your ground or spoke passionately about something others didn’t understand. But here’s the truth: you haven’t even done enough. Have you met Jesus?
Our Lord was the definition of “extra.” To bring us back to Himself, He became a man, endured a brutal death on the cross, and gave us eternal life. And His passion didn’t end there—it was visible in everything He did.
In John 2, Jesus enters the temple and finds traders conducting business. He responds fiercely: whips are made, tables are flipped, and people are driven out. It was a lot. But in verse 17, we see the heart behind His actions: “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”
Jesus was zealous—for God, His house, and His people. And as His follower, you should be, too. However, zeal isn’t just in loud prayers or regular church attendance. While those matter, zeal also shows in how you love others, like the early church did (Acts 2:42–47).
It’s also in how you raise your children to know and walk with God (Deuteronomy 6:6–7, Proverbs 22:6), just like Abraham, Isaac, and Joshua did for generations after them.
Finally, zeal is expressed in your work, too. Whether it’s a 9-to-5 or a business, when you work with excellence, God is glorified. In the Bible, people like Bezalel, Daniel and Joseph were honored for honoring God with their gifts (Exodus 31:1–5, Daniel 6:3–4, Genesis 39:2-6).
So, Triumpher, being “extra” isn’t a problem when it’s for the right reason. And honestly, no one deserves that kind of energy more than God.
As you begin the new week, ask yourself: “Am I zealous enough?” “How can I express my passion for God more?” The Holy Spirit will answer—with fresh fire, grace, and everything you need to take your world for Jesus.
That’s all for today.
Till next time,
Tim.
